Tire Removal in Tuscany, Meridian

Tuscany is one of Meridian's established master-planned neighborhoods, built mostly from the 1990s through the 2020s with HOAs, community amenities, and three-car garages on most lots. That garage space is exactly where tires tend to collect: old sets swapped out and never hauled off, a mismatched spare from a used-car purchase, ATV or utility trailer tires left over from a project that stalled out.

A tire job in a neighborhood like this usually isn't complicated in terms of the work itself. The part that takes some thought is getting them out without tearing up a driveway or landscaping, and making sure they land at a facility that actually takes them instead of getting left at the curb.

What tends to pile up in a neighborhood like this

Because Tuscany's homes are newer construction with attached garages, you don't see tires stacked against a shed or dumped in a side yard the way you might in an older part of the valley. They're more often tucked in a garage corner, stashed under a workbench, or stacked behind a riding mower or a boat that doesn't move much.

Not everything needs to go straight to disposal. A tire with real tread left sometimes still has use to a neighbor or a landscaper for a specific project, so it's worth a quick look before assuming it's trash. Rims still attached to a tire separate out easily and recycle as scrap metal, which is a cleaner path than the rubber itself, which has to go through a disposal stream built for tires specifically.

HOA rules and permits worth knowing before you start

Meridian is known for mandatory HOAs and CC&Rs on most newer builds, and Tuscany is squarely in that category. A stack of tires visible from the street or sitting out longer than expected is more likely to draw a notice here than in a neighborhood without an association watching.

If the job goes beyond simple hauling, like clearing out a shed before it comes down, permits can come into play. Meridian Building Services, part of Community Development, handles permits for demolition, sheds, and garages, and those applications go through the city's Citizen Access system. If a dumpster needs to sit in the street or along the shoulder rather than in a driveway, that's a different permit entirely, since ACHD owns Meridian's public roads and requires its own right-of-way approval for anything placed there. Either way, the homeowner is the one on record for getting the right permit pulled.

Where the tires actually end up

Ada County doesn't let tires go out with regular trash, so where they're hauled matters. The county landfill, known locally as Hidden Hollow, sits in the north Boise foothills off Seamans Gulch Road and takes tires for a fee, along with yard waste, scrap metal, and Freon appliances, also for a fee. A lot of Meridian jobs route instead to the Meridian Transfer Station on West Franklin Road, which is closer and accepts large metal items and cardboard at no charge during its posted hours.

Both locations turn away certain things, which is part of why a load gets sorted before it ever leaves the property. Hazardous waste doesn't go in with regular disposal, treated or painted wood gets pulled out of anything meant for diversion, and waste generated outside the county isn't accepted at either site.

  • Tires are accepted, but only for a posted per-tire fee, never free
  • Scrap metal and clean wood separate out and recycle instead of landfilling
  • Freon-containing appliances carry their own separate fee
  • Loads have to be tarped or otherwise secured on the way in
  • Out-of-county waste and untitled trailers or boats aren't accepted
  • Card payment is accepted at both sites, but confirm current hours before heading out

However the load breaks down, getting tires sorted correctly before they leave Tuscany saves a wasted trip to the wrong facility. If you'd rather not sort and haul it yourself, Boise Tire Removal offers a free estimate to look at what you've got and take it from there.
